History of the port

1934
In 1934, Japan began to build the port Sisuka (today known as Port of Poronaysk).
1946
In 1946, the Sakhalin island became part of the Soviet Union, and in the city Poronaysk established the office of commercial port of Poronaysk.
1950
In the beginning the port of Poronaysk was subordinated to the Makarov commercial port, and in 1950 became independent port. In 1951, it opened for the international traffic. In 1955, Port of Poronaysk was reorganized and it became the port point of the Korsakov commercial port.
1957
In 1957 the harbour became independent port again, it became port of III category.
1960-70
In the 1960s and 70s - construction and repair works.
1980-90
In 1980-90 years of annual transshipment of goods reaches record high of 1 million tons. The basis of the turnover of goods: forest products paper mill, fish products, cement, sand and gravel mix and consumer goods. The port also used for passenger transportation inside city of Poronaysk.
1990
In the 1990s (privatization period) the port reorganized. The capacity of the port of Poronaysk reduced due to the economic decline of the region.
2003-08
In 2003, on the basis of Federal state unitary enterprise «Rosmorport» Sakhalin branch commenced business activities in the port. By order of the Government of the Russian Federation from November 20, 2008 No. 1724-R confirms the status of the border crossing point at the port of Poronaysk (number 378).
2010
In April 2010, the boundaries of the port established, and in July of the same year, information about the harbour included in the Register of seaports of the Russian Federation.
2013-14
In 2013-2014 the port included in the lists of the state border crossing.
2015
From November 2015 the port of Poronaysk has a new owner – holding company «Development of transport projects». The managing company became LLC «Port of Poronaysk».
